The award winning Welbeck Farm Shop is a treasure trove of artisan food produce. As I visit our friends, who are based in the heart of Welbeck’s idyllic community, I feel proud to be part of this vibrant community.
As I browse the farm shop shelves, I am immediately struck by the dedication to provide the highest quality locally sourced foods. Many of the shop’s impressive products are sourced from or prepared on this historic estate. Our community of food producers are dedicated to upholding artisan traditions and it is because of the ongoing loyalty of the Welbeck Farm Shop, that we as a brewery, are able to focus on producing exceptional products and be personally involved in every stage of the production process.
Opening its doors in 2006, the Welbeck Farm Shop was known for its specialty in meats. Around the same time a partnership between Joe Schneider and Randolph Hodgson (from London’s Neal’s Yard Dairy) had formed to create a raw milk Stilton, something that hadn’t been done since the early 1990’s. The synergy between the farm shop and the cheesemaker was electric. It soon attracted other artisan food producers and this dynamic community now includes the Welbeck Farm Shop, Stichelton Dairy, The School of Artisan Food, The Welbeck Bakehouse and Welbeck Abbey Brewery.
At the heart of the Welbeck Farm Shop, is its award winning butchery, that prides itself on whole carcass butchery alongside wild game from the estate and surrounding Sherwood Forest. The butchery counters showcase the best local pork, beef and lamb from the estate and local farmers. Focusing on artisanal food traditions and rigorous taste testing has meant the Welbeck Farm Shop has a reputation as one of the best in the country.
Alongside the produce from within the Welbeck Estate the farm shop source products from many other local food specialists. David Wall, our resident cheese expert works closely with Neal’s Yard to provide an exceptional selection of sumptuous cheese. On-site they produce a selection of deli items including cooked meats, pastries and pork pies; and house the Estates raw milk vending machine.
The synergy between the farm shop and Welbeck Abbey Brewery goes beyond our shared environments. The two guiding principles which underpin our brewery are to produce the best quality beer in the market, and provide our customers with exemplary service every time. You won’t see our bottles in supermarkets as we believe that our hand crafted ales should only be available in outlets that pride themselves on sourcing the best quality, locally produced beers, as is the philosophy of the Welbeck Farm Shop.
The Welbeck Farm Shop is one of the only specialist outlets that stocks the entire Welbeck Abbey range all year round. From bottles to minikegs you can be sure to find a traditionally brewed ale to suit your taste.
